Oops! Haven't update our school blog weekly like I planned :( Well, I am sure it won't be the last time.
We spent the last week in October in San Luis Obispo. While Dad was working, the kids and I walked 2.8 miles to the beach on Tuesday & Thursday, and probably equal distance around the town of San Luis Obispo on Wednesday. (Our PE quota was certainly met that week) Our trek to the beach was filled with some learning opportunities. There was some history, (on the namesake of the trail and the donated bench plaques in memory of people), and natural science as we discovered, observed and photographed various species of God's creatures. A tarantula, a red-hawk, and a vulture drying his wings (or posing for our photo-according to Leah). There was much socialization as we (especially Leah) greeted those on the trail, at Avila beach playground and on the beach itself.
We also spent a day in the town of San Luis Obispo touring the Mission San Luis Obispo de Tolosa, critiquing two local parks, experiencing the Children's Museum of San Luis Obispo, and reading stories at the library.
Other adventures of this trip included excursions to an ice cream store and a candy store. Wednesday evening the family enjoyed dinner by a campfire on the beach and witnessed a marriage proposal further down the beach. We had a family game night in the rec center of the campground and the kids enjoyed playing on the playground behind our campsite each evening as I prepared dinner.
Getting back home to reality was an adjustment and it took us a few days to get back into our routine. We've continued to work on our weekly bible verses and reading lessons. We've added a few more games into the mix to learn some math skills as well as memory skills.
With the holidays fast approaching we will be focusing more on giving and doing for others which means more arts and crafts time at Oak Valley Academy during the month of December. Our math lessons may also include fractions as we measure out ingredients for tasty holiday treats. Leah and I will be attending a performing arts event in late November and etiquette lessons will prevail on December 4th as we prepare for a birthday tea party.
