Preparing for the new school year!
Hello all. Although we have been busy this summer with activities and travel, those are only excuses as to why this blog and our "family" blog has not been updated in a timely fashion. Truthfully, after reading some friends blogs, and "friends of friends" blogs I realize how truly talented some people are with the written word...and in comparision, I dont' feel like one of them :)
And although I won't compare, their eloquent posts have inspired me, however for the purposes of this blog, you may not see those attempts :)
Trying to catch you up to all that we've been doing since April at this point would be too time consuming. As we've chosen to "school" year round, we're still on a "scholarly" schedule, though slightly altered to accomodate the fun activities that crop up over the summer with our school bound friends.
I personally have attended one homeschool conference in June, and will be attending one more larger conference at the end of July. I'm looking forward to all the exciting and informative workshops that await me. These conferences are always good for inspiration, encouragement and ideas.
I've been diligently working on our schedules, curriculum and resources for the upcoming school year. I'm excited by the opportunities we'll have with a co-op homeschool group we'll be joining; as well as some of the curriculum I've selected for next year.
This school year also brings our first "official" year homeschooling, as I'll be registering our school with the state. Oak Valley Academy will offically be registered as a private school for the 2011/2012 school year!
Most likely we'll still not have our "classroom" completed by the start of this school year. With Scott's business taking us away from our home responsibilites frequently this past year, the classroom project has been put on the back burner. Scott has had to use the room for his office since January. Our goal is to restore it to it's "revised" original use in the next few months, but we'll have to see if that is what's in store for our time.
Luckily-we can have school anywhere, which has been proven this year-again and again. We've had school in the living room, dining room, backyard, front porch and hotel rooms. We've also had informal instruction during field trips, over-nights with grandparents, and the countless other activites that occur daily in our lives -though not academic in nature- but are learning opportunities just the same!
Stay tuned...
