Winding down...Gearing up.

Yikes!  My last post was in March?  Guess that means we've been really busy :)  As we are homeschooling year round, we finish up our 1st Grade & Jr. Kindergarten next Tuesday.  We'll resume school in September after Labor Day-at which point I'll have a 2nd grader and a Kindergartner.

If the kids were enrolled in our local public school, they would have started yesterday.  Then I'd be pulling Nolan out next week for 5-6 weeks for his surgery. And we'd have to utilize the generosity of the grandma's, who would spend their days shuttling Leah to school for at least 2 weeks.  We thank the Lord that He guided us to homeschool way before we even met our children :)

In June, Scott and I attended our local homeschool convention.  We both came away with tips, ideas and most important-a conviction to continue our path of homeschooling.  I also had some time to visit with my aunt who has been teaching for over 30 years and she also gave me some great insight and tips for our upcoming year.

I've started gearing up for the 2012/2013 school year, even though we've not quite completed the 2011/2012 year.  The curriculum has been chosen, the lesson plans are drafted, a new schedule is in the development stage, and school supplies have been purchased.  I've also had time to reflect on what worked for us, what needs to be "tweaked", and what needs to be pitched. In doing this preparation, I've also taken the time to review our accomplishments this year, and even though on certain days it feels like we've made no progress, looking back-both kids have climbed the ladder of learning-at their own pace.

Homeschooling isn't for everyone-we know that.  But we do know it works for OUR family and is the best choice in education for OUR children.  We're glad to have a great support system in homeschooling friends and are excited for the upcoming school year in the opportunities we have teach our kids "out of the box".

See you in September!
