I'm Still Here!

Ok.  I had no idea it’s been so long since I’ve updated the blog!!  Perhaps it’s because I do it in my head frequently…write that is.  And then I think that it’s been done. I suppose that is what happens when insomnia sets in.  And I’m not one to just get up out of bed as “sleep experts” suggest.  Instead, I stubbornly try to make myself fall asleep with various methods, which tends to include “writing” in my head.  Thankfully, the insomnia has slowed down immensely since I reintroduced my body to Melatonin.  For the last 2 months, I’ve finally been getting better and longer sleep.

Where to start from my last update??  Our school year is coming to a close and the only reason were still “in session” is because the kids and I chose a year-round school calendar for the 2018/2019 school year. Although we did enjoy getting a one week break every 6 weeks, we are not fans of doing this much school in June and July.  We typically just have math and some fun reading during the summer months.

We guarantee 2019/2020 school year calendar will look much different.  Leah’s wrapping up 8th grade & Nolan is finishing 6th grade.  We will be the parents of a high school student and a middle school student this September!  GULP!  When did that happen???

Our latest adventure was our annual 4th of July camping trip with friends.  This year was a little bittersweet as the dear friends who began these camping adventures with the families have moved out of state.  Thankfully they didn’t immediately have a place for their RV, so we housed it for them, and they agreed to fly out for the camp trip, use their RV, and then road trip it back to their new state:  Missouri.  Which just happens to be 1,960 miles from Rescue!  The Thorne’s are hoping to plan a road trip to a new area of the country soon.

Big Catch

Leah's "Wall Tent" with that housed 8 girls

Almost the whole gang!

Since my last post on my birthday, we’ve also travelled with Scott for work to Death Valley & Arizona.  I did mention we like road trips, right?  I guess that is why it’s easy for Scott to say “yes” to these long-distance jobs.

End of a short hike

In between the travel has just been typical everyday life.  Thankfully no health issues for any of us at present.  I’ll be heading to Stanford for my annual check up in mid-August.

We had a new addition to our extended family on March 3.  My little bro & his wife added another little girl in to the family on what would have been my Mom’s 71st birthday.  The current number for me is 6 nieces & 3 nephews…so I guess the girls run strong on both my side & Scott’s side of the families 😊.

In my “free” time I’ve been researching/planning for Leah’s high school courses and making sure she’s on track for college prep since that is her goal.  And to answer the burning question:   Yes!  I am still planning to home school both of them through high school, God willing.  There are plenty of opportunities available through on-line courses, local home school classes, the local junior college etc. where both will have all the opportunities they desire for their selected goals.  I promise that when both Leah and Nolan graduate high school, Scott and I will have done our best to not only have provided them with a well-rounded education, but also life skills that are lacking in many of today’s young adults.

Ok.  I’m going to get this blog post out, since I started it last week…but stay tuned.  More to come before August is over!
