5 years of gratitude

I know it’s been 8 months since my last blog. I promise to catch everyone up soon.

I just wanted to write this today as feelings have been building and welling up inside that needed to be released.  Today marks the 5th year since my 2nd heart transplant.  I’m writing this blog in Michigan while visiting my sister in one of my most favorite places.  This morning we said good bye to my youngest sibling and his family, bringing an end to our almost week long sibling reunion-and what I hope will become on ongoing tradition.

The feelings began building Saturday morning as I sat on Cherry Beach watching  all 3 of my siblings, their spouses and kids, and Scott and my kids frolicking in the sand of Lake Michigan.  I felt incredibly overwhelmed by blessings and thought about all that the 4 of us have endured in the last 5 years personally and I am so grateful that nothing has divided us despite differences in opinion, lifestyle and choices we have all made throughout our lives.  We are still a united front.  And I am amazed that I am allowed to still be here to witness this marvel of family relationships that were reconnected, introduced (some of us had not met our newest additions), and strengthened during our short time together.

For myself personally I am amazed that I have the privilege of living and experiencing this time with my family and extended family all because a family I have never met made a sacrificial decision in the midst of the most heart wrenching of circumstances that led to me receiving her glorious, strong heart.

I want to continue to enjoy my last few days in Michigan and then Saturday we’ll be heading home with our travel trailer back to California to begin preparing for the upcoming school year.  Once we are home & settled, I will update with photos, including from this reunion with my peeps.

Love Heals your Heart by Third Day is a song that has resonated with me for awhile and I hope you take time to listen to it.  Have a beautiful day.

 Love Heals your Heart
