Relaxing school days
I know it's mid-week, but I won't get another chance to post again until October is over.
School has been a little relaxed since the teacher & principal returned from their week long vacation. The students arrived home on Tuesday-October 12 and were much too excited for any official school work although Leah did almost have her 2 verses memorized for Awana's that night. ( Pretty good, since we only had a few hours to read and talk about them before class began).
Since we were going on a field trip to the Monterey Bay Aquarim on Monday, Oct. 18th with our homeschool group, we spent the next few days reading books on sea life and viewing a video of the coral reef and creatures of the sea. We continued to study our verses for the week and then left on Sunday after church for Monterey. We listened to the 8th book in the Little House Series on the way to and from Monterey (our literature lesson for the week :) )
We enjoyed a leisurely day Monday at the aquarium and the kids were fascinated with many of the sea life there. Before we'd left for Monterey, I had told Leah she was responsible for choosing 3 of her favorite exhibits at the aquarium. I told her that once we returned home, she would be responsible for drawing pictures of these and writing one fact about each. She drew and colored pictures of the jellyfish, the octopus, a shark and bat rays. (We'll finish the facts over the next day or two).
We finished up last weeks' verses and have begun verses for next week although we will not be here for Awana's. We are headed to San Luis Obispo on Monday, so we'll be on an extended field trip all next week. Our objectives next week will be learning about and visiting the Mission San Luis Obispo de Tolosa, memorizing three new verses from the bible, and maybe some more sea-life viewing at Avila Beach :)
We also plan on visiting the Children's Museum there and touring the town. Hoping the weather cooperates for us as we explore the region.
We are really enjoying homeschool life :)
