A New Year!

Ok, so I've come to the conclusion that between Thanksgiving and Christmas for all future school years, we will be taking off from "structured" school activities :)

We started off our first day back at school going on a field trip with fellow homeschooling friends.  We visited the Indian Grinding Rock State Historic Park.  (See pictures-side bar).  Since we were the only people there, we had one-on-one attention from the Park Ranger and she showed the kids the different tools the Miwok Indians used and explained quite a bit about the Indian way of life.  I believe my fellow homeschool mom & I probably got more out of it, but the kids enjoyed the hands-on experience.  :)

We then braved the cold and headed outside to check out the replica village and the actual "Grinding Rock" where the Indians ground the acorns until they were a fine meal to use in mush or soup.  The kids had fun just "running" and checking out the Roundhouse where the Indians gathered for ceremonies, and hiding in the TeePees (the kids, not the Indians)

This week will be a short school week as the Grandma's are going to get their "kid fix" before we take off for all our travels this month.  Next week we have several field trips planned in Bakersfield and Los Angeles area. Scott  has a training in Bakersfield and then we have a wedding to attend in Pasadena.

A few key places we'll try to visit are:  CA Living Museum, Buena Vista Museum of Natural History, Kern County Museum, Bakersfield Museum of Art and the La Brea Tar Pits.   Between, we'll be trying to squeeze in some book work and bible verse memorization.

I'm going to attempt to get back onto a weekly schedule of updating the school blog of what we worked on or did for the week.  So stay tuned for all the exciting news of our travel adventures this month!
