We've been travelling for business and personal reasons all last week.  Therefore I had high hopes that Leah and I would be able to spend more time on school stuff since we would be away from the distractions of home and confined in a hotel. What I didn't figure in to our scheduled time was...Nolan.  Evidently confining an active 3 year old boy toa  hotel room is not a very good idea.

So we spent lots of time  at parks, and anywhere else outside of the hotel  And we did squeeze in an educational opportunity at the Kern County Museum.  Our ASTC membership through the Discovery Museum in Sacramento allowed us free admission, so we visited this museum on 2 seperate days, taking Dad with us on the second visit.

The museum had a "pioneer village" which was basically an entire town.  Most of the buildings were actual buildings used in Kern county in the late 1800's that were eventually moved to the museum site.   We also toured the Black Gold museum that educated us on the oil mining that took place (and still does take place) in Kern County.  After spending 3 hours on our first day, touring the pioneer village and the Black Gold Museum, we went to Children's Discovery center where both kids basically played in a miniature town the rest of our visit.  We then headed out for a late lunch and a rest back at the hotel before going to pick up Dad from his training.

We left Bakersfield Friday afternoon after our second visit to the museum and drove to Pasadena for a wedding we would attend on Sunday.  While in Pasadena we visited another park, and the La Brea Tar Pits and Page Museum; so we did squeeze in educational field trips eventhough school work may have been put on the back burner.

As we gear up for our next out of town adventure and more training for Dad, it's been challenging to fit in school this week.  But we did do our bible lessons and play some games (math oriented).  And there's been some story time (though not as many as mom would like).  I'll make sure to pack the games for Ventura & come up with some educational opportunites to use while we hang out on the beach next week.  I will also spend this weekend looking for some places to visit in the Ventura area (other than the beach).  Hopefully between laundry, packing, and assembling class materials I'll find the time to do that.

Stay tuned to find out what (if anything) the kids may have learned and as always, enjoy the new photos.
