Count down to Kindergarten begins...

I have 2 full days before Leah & I officially start our homeschool journey.  Today I sat down with Leah in our make-shift "classroom".  (Daddy hasn't had time to complete it-but that's another post on our Thorne Escapades blog).    It will work for now and hopefully by October we'll have more space to spread out.  :)

Anyway, I sat down with Leah and asked her 2 questions;
1)  What did SHE want to learn by the end of her Kindergarten year?
and
2)  Where would SHE like to go on her Kindergarten Field Trips?

Here are her answers to question # 1:
1) I want to know about snakes
2) I want to learn how grapes become raisins
3)I want to learn how to read all the letters so I can read my library books and even mommy's books and how to write all the letters
4)  I want to learn how to read numbers
5)  I want to know how to read a Calendar
6) I want to read clocks
7)  How do they make crayons?
8)  How do they make bricks?
9) How to make paint?

And #2, list of Field Trips:
1)  Zoo to see Big Mountian Lions
2)  Fire Station to see how the firemen put out a fire
3) Place to see a whale like "Free Willy"
4)  The place where Jesus died on the cross
5) Museum about Indians
6) Museum with BIG dinosaur bones
7)  Jelly Belly Factory
8)  Place where we get carmel apples
9)  Place to see all the fish and sea creatures
10)  Place to see all the space stuff

Whew...we're going to have a busy year!  I told her we might be able to make all but 1 field trip, and that would be #4...as we don't have enough $$ for that plane ride.

I also have to clarify that Leah does recognize her letters, but she wants to be able to "read" them in the context of reading all her library books without mom's help :)  Though, I sheepishly admit that she does not recognize her numbers yet, but does understand the counting concept.  I already know that by observing me teach Leah, Nolan will probably know all this by the time he's 4.

Ok...I'll try and let you know how the first week faired and post a picture of Leah on her first day of school.
